Carton was originally under the sole ownership of the Mallaghan family.  The Hotel and Golf Resort was developed with them in partnership with the McCormack’s, the Kelly’s and Pierse Construction. The hotel operation was run by Choice Hotels.  The original house was restored in keeping with it’s historic integrity and grandeur. The Anglo-Irish aristocrats the Fitzgeralds built Carton House as the country home and Leinster House as their city home.  In total Carton House hotel has 165 bedrooms, plus conference and leisure centres. The resort has 2 golf courses; the O’Meara and Montgomery. The Irish Open was played there on a number of occasions.  Ownership moved to the Mullen Family by agreement with NAMA.  John Mullen, head of the Mullen family was born in Mayo and emigrated to the U.S. as a young man. The Fairmont Group run the resort for the Mullen Family.
